ABOUT JAIPUR

Jaipur, formerly known as Jeypore, is the capital and largest city of Rajasthan, with a population of 3.1 million as per the 2011 census, making it the tenth most populous city in India. Known as the Pink City for its unique architectural color scheme and often called the Paris of India, it was also described by C. V. Raman as the Island of Glory. The city was founded in 1727 by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Amer and planned by architect Vidyadhar Bhattacharya, making it one of the earliest examples of modern urban planning in India. Situated about 268 km (167 miles) from New Delhi, Jaipur served as the capital of the princely state during the British era and, after Indiaโ€™s independence in 1947, became the capital of Rajasthan, continuing to thrive as a major cultural, historical, and economic hub.
